Well. That’s how your pet feels.  It is important to check your pet’s mouth on a regular basis for tartar builds up, fractured teeth or bad breath.

The most common problems that our pets experience is build up from plaque and calculus (tartar).  If left unchecked, plaque and calculus can eventually cause inflammation of both the gums (gingivitis) and the membrane lining of the tooth socket (periodontitis).  Without proper treatment, the teeth may become infected and fall out.  The resulting infection may spread to other parts of the body, such as the kidneys or valves of the heart.

This patient is six years old.  This picture was taken just before the teeth cleaning.

Dental problems can be minimized or even prevented through regular cleaning and sealing under monitored anesthesia by your veterinarian.

Common warnings signs of dental problems:

· Loss of appetite

· Red, swollen, bleeding gums

· Drooling

· Blood in saliva

· Yellow-brown tartar at gum line

· Broken teeth

· Foul breath

If your pet shows any of these signs, they may need a professional teeth cleaning.  Call us today to schedule an appointment to check their teeth or to schedule a teeth cleaning.
